Hi Jake,
You may qualify for a hardship license. Go to this link to apply, it should not take that long to fill out: https://www.dps.texas.gov/internetforms/Forms/DL-77.pdf

My father figure lost his job 13+ months ago, so my family faces a financial crisis and we are being kicked out of my home. He just recently got a temporary job and my mother figure has also gotten a temporary job. He works overseas in Taiwan, whereas my mother figure works everyday on week days from 7 – 4. I have no way to get to and from school, considering I’m not allowed on my routes bus because I’ve been bullied and even physically fought due to me being a transgender student. I aswell find it safer for me to not be present on my bus. I am also getting a temporary job at my local hardware store, so I’d need the ability to drive to and from work to help provide for my family. Does this qualify for a hardship license?

Hi Lizzie,
When you apply for the hardship license you will need to answer various questions including: Is your family facing an unusual financial hardship and is being deprived of the basic necessities of life? If the answer to this question is, “Yes,” then there is a possibility you will qualify for a hardship license. Go to this link to apply: https://www.dps.texas.gov/internetforms/Forms/DL-77.pdf

Hi Sean, Do not forget: To be eligible for a hardship license, the teen must fall into one or more of these categories:

1. Without the teen being able to drive, the family would suffer from an economic hardship that prevents it from enjoying the basic necessities of life.

2. There is an ill family member who the teen must drive to receive medical care and other life needs.

3. The teen is a student in a certified vocational school.

4. The teen must temporarily perform head of household duties; for example, following the death of a family member.

If you can honestly honor yes to any of the above categories, you may be eligible.

She has really bad knees and hips and it hurts her to drive places, and to stand too long. So i often need to help. I’m about to get a part time job plus i go to high school. In that case i’m wandering if i would be able to get my hardship license?
