You can request your driving record with the Indiana BMV.
This record has all of your driving history and personal info and may be used by:
- Employee background checks.
- Sections of government.
- Insurances agencies for rate adjustments and claim investigations.
Indiana Driving Record Types
Your IN BMV will offer:
- A viewable driving record: You may see it online at no charge.
- An official driving record: This comes with a certification letter and qualifies for use in official cases.
On your Indiana driving record, you will find:
- Your first and last name.
- Your residential address.
- Your birth date.
- Your gender.
- Your license number, expiration date, and class.
- The status of your license.
- The number of points against your license.
- Past traffic offenses, including any conviction.
- Your Social Security number.
- A physical description.
- Your driving restrictions.
Your official or viewable driving record can be attained in the following manners:
- By mail.
- In person.
- Online.
To request more than one official driving record, you must do it through the mail or in person. Defensive Driving in Indiana Enrolling in a defensive driving course allows you to have points taken off of your driving record. Employer and Other Requests You can request the driving record of somebody else assuming you are one of the following:
- A lawyer.
- Part of a government agency.
- A member of law enforcement.
- A parent or legal guardian.
- An employer doing a background check.
If you want to get somebody's driving record through the mail or in person, you must have:
- A filled-out Request for Driver Records (Form 53789).
- A $4 fee payment.
Your form and fee should be taken to your or mailed to the specified address. NOTE: When requesting a driving record through the mail, the payment has to be completed by check or money order with "BMV" in the payable line. Correcting an IN Driving Record If you see something on your driving record that may be inaccurate, you may call the Indiana BMV at (888) 692-6841. It's a great idea to check to make sure all of the info listed on your record is correct. Inaccurate listings may cause you to receive higher insurance rates, fines, and possibly license suspensions.
